How much does a therapy session cost?

Clients are billed $225 for a one-hour therapy session. This rate applies to individual or couple sessions.

This fee is in line with the recommended fee schedule published by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta.

What payments do you accept?

I accept credit cards, debit cards, e-transfers, cheques, or cash.

Can I get reimbursed by my health care benefits plan?

Session fees may be fully or partially reimbursed by your insurance company, employee health benefit plan, or extended health care plan. Please verify your level of coverage with your provider. You may find it useful to ask the following questions of your provider:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?

  • How many sessions does my plan cover per year?

  • What amount does my plan cover per session?

  • Does my plan require a note from my family physician?

I provide you with a receipt to submit to your insurer. This receipt identifies me as a Registered Psychologist.

What do I do if I am experiencing a crisis and need immediate help?

I am unable to offer immediate or emergency mental health care. In crisis or emergency, please attend the nearest hospital or call the Calgary Distress Centre, available 24/7, at (403) 266-4357.

Also see the Resources page for additional information.

Does what we talk about remain confidential?

The information you share with me during a therapy session is confidential. By law, I do not release information about you to any other party (such as your physician) without your written consent for disclosure.

There are exceptions to this practice. I may disclose information without your consent

  • If you give me information that reasonably suggests imminent and serious harm to you or another person.

  • If, during legal proceedings that involve you, the court issues a subpoena for your therapy record.

Do I need a doctor’s referral before I can schedule a therapy session?

No. I welcome clients who self-refer, as well as clients referred by physicians. (If you intend to seek reimbursement, please verify with your insurer whether a physician’s written referral is necessary.)

What if I miss an appointment?

Cancellations or changes to appointment times are permitted up to 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. A cancellation fee equivalent to the session fee ($225) will be charged for unexcused late cancellations and missed appointments. Of course, life events sometimes occur beyond our control, and we can certainly discuss this as the need presents itself.
